Synopsis

Desire rises and time passes. You’re enjoying the cadence. You forget about power, war and violence. You don’t think about anything… You remind yourself that life isn’t always so complicated… Later on you applaud warmly. With tears in your eyes, you realize that it’s still possible to have a good time.

Symphonie sur un même souffle is a succession of performance-tableaus that explore the clichéd conception of matrimony; a constructed image that questions genre stereotypes as granted institutions; a series of tableaux vivant where contemplation leads as much to surprise as it does to incoherency, bizarre coincidences, and dramatic turns of events. The monument becomes enigmatic and the ritual as well: a source of fear, like a broken fairy tale. In pushing the limits of subversion onto well-known territory, we participate in an analysis of the human condition -- between embarrassment and shame, thrilling happiness, derisory cynicism and politely accepted unease. A video that refers as much to film culture as it does to mass culture and the collective memory. The mini-scenes could remind us of a music video or an ad for a multinational, a video game or eye-catching military recruitment spot…
